SIMS SNOWBOARDS LAUNCHES TOM SIMS LEGACY FUND WITH SOS OUTREACH

SIMS SNOWBOARDS LAUNCHES TOM SIMS LEGACY FUND WITH SOS OUTREACH
Fund To Provide Snowboarding Scholarships to Underprivileged Youth

(DENVER) – Dec. 4, 2012 – SIMS Snowboards is proud to announce the launch of the Tom Sims Legacy Fund in partnership with SOS Outreach, a national nonprofit that works to build character and self esteem among at-risk youth through outdoor adventure sports, to provide snowboarding scholarships to underprivileged kids.

SOS Outreach serves more 5,000 participants annually and the Tom Sims Legacy Fund will create a sustainable annual campaign for the organization dedicated to snowboarding programs. All donations made to SOS through The Tom Sims Legacy Fund will provide scholarships to kids to participate in five-day Learn to Ride programs, which includes five days of professional instruction featuring the SOS Core Value curriculum, lift tickets, as well as equipment rentals and apparel.

“The Fund was not only established to honor the memory of Tom, but to spread the love of snowboarding to anyone and everyone – a pursuit Tom lived day in and day out,” said SIMS brand manager Marc Vitelli. “SOS is the perfect partner to memorialize Tom and his dedication to the sport.”

SIMS Snowboards kicked off the Tom Sims Legacy Fund with a $7,000 donation earlier this year. The initial donation will enable SOS to scholarship more than 150 participants in the program this year alone.

“SOS Outreach is honored to be a part of Tom’s legacy through the Tom Sims Legacy Fund,” said Seth Ehrlich, Development Director of SOS Outreach. “We consider Tom and the SIMS brand part of the SOS family, and are proud to play a role in keeping Tom’s dedication and passion alive through our programs.”

SOS works with 5,000 participants annually, operating at 32 ski and snowboard resorts in 15 states, and provides 20,000 program days each year. SOS Outreach focuses on quality, quantity, and duration to ensure success in its programs. Since its inception, SOS Outreach has brought more than 30,000 youth into winter sports. In 2009, the National Ski Areas Association recognized SOS Outreach for bringing more minorities into winter sports than any other single initiative.
