SNOCRU Partners with Protect Our Winters (POW)

SNOCRU, a micro-social app built for the entire snowsports industry, has announced it will be partnering with Protect Our Winters (POW) as a way to raise funds for the organization.

The promotion, which will be in full effect during the week of December 3-9, will see SNOCRU donate $1 to Protect Our Winters every time the app is downloaded.  The snow-specific app, which is free for Iphones and Androids, allows riders to connect with each other, chat, check snow conditions, track runs, speed, distance, and elevation, and locate nearby restaurants, ATMs, or gas stations. By supporting the app next week, POW will also gain momentum to continue its work educating others on protecting the environment and global warming.

We caught up with SNOCRU Founder Ed Lewis to find out how the partnership came about, how the app has been received by the snow community, and what we can expect from the partnership in the future.

How did this deal come about? 

SNOCRU donated $2,000 last year to POW and Executive Director Chris Steinkamp said he’d do a little SNOCRU push for us, so this is what we came up with. SNOCRU will donate a minimum of $2,000 to POW annually. This is this year’s way of donating.

How much money are you hoping to raise?

I was hoping we would raise $2k to $3k— maybe more.

How many members do you have these days?

We have about 15,000 members, and we have 25,000 downloads. This winter, I plan on ending with 70k to 75k. We are going to do three months worth of promotions. The February promo will be geared entirely for snowboarding, along with acquiring users through eight other apps we just bought. So fingers crossed for many more users!

What kind of apps?

GPS tracking apps for eight different resorts.

Why do you feel it’s important to support POW?

Because global warming, in my eyes, is very real. In every business I’ve been in I’ve always given back.  SNOCRU isn’t pumping out the dough, but whether it is or isn’t, I want to support our industry. It’s especially easy when it involves our passion. So what better cause than POW!
