In September I covered the Outdoor Industry Association’s launch of the Eco Index Pilot Program, a program that will allow brands to use a consistent language to rate the environmental impact of their products. This month OIA announced that the Eco Index Phase 1 Beta Pilot Program is now complete and feedback is being reviewed and incorporated into the next version of the Eco Index documents. Subgroups in 2011 will develop additional Eco Index content, including Transportation Guidelines and Indicators and the Toxics and Waste Lenses. Additional subgroups will focus on creating sector-specific materials content and improved online tools for apparel, footwear, and equipment.
OIA's site below reflects a selection of beta tools which are in a test phase: they are not yet complete, and are subject to change. In fact, with your input, they will change – for the better. So, roll up your sleeves and let’s get started.
